| The events of the last couple of weeks have been nothing short of extraordinary. First, our president released his birth certificate. Then, in a perfect, classic, even text-book demonstration of how to say the right thing at the right time, he saved his words for Donald Trump until it was time to roast him like a chicken at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Finally, he totally trumped Donald Trump by 1) interrupting Celebrity Apprentice (Trump's TV Show) by calling a press conference during the climatic argument in the boardroom (sparing us from having to watch what was tuning up to be a particularly nasty session between Star Jones and NeNe Leakes) then 2) taking his own time to reveal the game-changing announcement for which he called the press conference in the first place.
Retaliation is certainly a possibility. Donald Trump may try to retaliate against the president for taking away his primary talking point, but so far his silence has been deafening. Al-Qaida may try to retaliate for the death of its leader, but again, their main problem with us is that they do not want us in their country. The removal of Osama Bin Laden also removes the most compelling reason for us to stay. I’m looking forward to an end to Donald Trump’s foolish ranting, the end of ridiculous and irrelevant attacks on President Obama, the end of a war, and the return of our troops. Maybe I’m a dreamer. And what an announcement it was! Osama Bin Laden, world-terrorist and public enemy number one, had been found, captured, and killed! While it is hard to rejoice at any death, the fact remains that this development is a real game changer in the way American politics will unfold from here on out . First, it removed the head of al-Qaida, the terrorist organization that claimed responsibility for the horrific events of September 11, 2001. But more importantly, it removed the major, primary reason that this country has had its soldiers overseas engaged in military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan for the past 10 years. Our major goals there were to avenge the September 11 devastation and destruction, and to remove the threat so that it does not happen again. With the elimination of Osama Bin Laden, both goals have been accomplished (or at least substantially so) and our troops can (hopefully) come home.
